Canceling Dentist Appointments Now Will Make You Pay More Later

Getting your teeth cleaned by a dental hygienist can cost between $100 to $300. When you don’t have insurance or a dental plan, that expense is coming directly out of your pocket. The price only climbs if that hygienist stumbles on problems like cavities or decay. It’s no wonder people are canceling their routine check-ups and avoiding the dentist for years.

A lot of people avoid their dentist because they say that they can’t afford it. The U.S Government Accountability Office found that 40% of Americans skip out on dental care and that 80% won’t call for an appointment if they notice something wrong with their mouth. The less someone earns on an annual basis, the less likely they are to visit the dentist.

Dental coverage is out of reach for a vast percentage of American citizens. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services found that an estimated 127 million have oral health coverage from their insurance plans, which means that over 180 million people don’t have anything.

Unfortunately, avoiding the dentist costs more money than missing out on a single appointment. The vice president of the Health Policy Institute at the American Dental Association, Marko Vujicic, stated that many people who think that the costs of dental care are too steep later find themselves in the emergency room paying for infections that a dentist could have managed.

Skipping the dentist is not a good idea, even when your finances are tight. If you want to get your teeth fixed and work within your budget, here are some options that you can try out:

Get Necessary Treatments Anyway

Filling cavities, getting crowns and root canals are all procedures you can’t ignore. The longer you wait to deal with these, the higher the costs will be to fix them. Putting these procedures on the back burner also raises your chances of requiring tooth extraction.

There’s a chance if you leave these issues unattended, they’ll turn into an emergency you can’t ignore. If you don’t have a dental plan or enough money in your account to pay for urgent dental treatment, you may turn to a company like MoneyKey to get it done.

If you’re debating whether to get your cavity filled or to ignore it because of your finances, this company may help you make a good choice for your dental health. They offer options for small dollar loans, so you may get a payday loan or an installment loan to deal with your important dental expense.

You should go to their website to learn more about your options and how you can fill out an application to be approved by an online direct lender. You can get the money you need within one business day.

Skip Unnecessary Treatments

On the other hand, dentists will often do additional treatments that you don’t need, which will add to your appointment’s price tag. One of the ways that you can save money at the dentist is to ask whether you need an X-ray completed for your visit — the procedure only needs to be done once every 2 to 3 years. Cutting that out can save you hundreds of dollars.

Find A More Affordable Location

If you’re anxious about the costs, you don’t have to go to a dentist’s office. Community health clinics and dental schools can offer you the same treatments at a fraction of the regular costs.

Take Care Of Your Teeth

One effective way to save money on dental is to practice proper oral hygiene by brushing and flossing your teeth at least two times a day. To keep your enamel strong, limit acidic foods in your diet like soft drinks, fruit juices, red wine and coffee. If you smoke cigarettes or cigars, you should consider quitting to ensure good oral health in the future.

Going to a dentist appointment will cost money, and it might hurt your wallet for a little while, but you should think of it as an investment. Taking good care of your teeth now means you don’t pay more for dental problems later on. Ultimately, taking care of your dental situation will keep money in your pocket and keep your smile looking great.
