Health & Wellness Careers To Consider

Staying in shape not only gives us the chance to look good in the mirror and increase our life expectancy, but it allows us to feel great throughout the day and be full of energy. If you want to impart your knowledge of how to get stronger and trim your waistline to those in need of guidance, then you may consider finding a job in the world of fitness.

The list below includes options that are more “hands on” with clients, working to perfect forms of exercise that increase speed and build muscle. Others are more education-based and provide advice for habits outside of the gym. Here are some careers to consider pursuing in the health & wellness field.

Fitness trainer

The best jobs out there are the ones that let you work with people on different levels in your field. One example is the profession of a fitness trainer, who is able to provide workout tutorials and tips for exercising for not only the average Joe looking to get into better shape, but also for professional athletes who want to increase their strength, speed and durability.

There are plenty of accredited online and continuing education degree programs that teach how to interact with your clients and the right approach that allows them to see you as both a professional and a friend. Going to your local gym also provides a more hands-on experience with learning the ins and outs of fitness training.

Dietitian

Eating the right food, drinking the right drinks, and consuming the right portions plays just as much of a role in achieving your perfect body image as lifting weights, running, and playing sports. Being a dietitian gives you the opportunity to impart your knowledge of fruits, vegetables, calories, carbohydrates, and proteins. This will also reduce health issues so that your clients’ appointments with professionals such as a Newark dentist or Hoboken dermatologist are easier to get through with less issues to be concerned about.

This job involves teaching your clients how to size up their breakfasts, lunches, and dinners so that they can achieve a healthier lifestyle. People of different age groups will require different changes to their meals in order to achieve their goals. The lessons will also involve figuring out the best times of the day to eat and drink certain things.

Physical Therapist

Some people may not be looking to obtain the body of a superhero or be able to perform on the same level as football players, basketball players, boxers, or mixed martial artists. They may just be looking for new ways to maintain their health or recover from a serious injury. In this case, we advise taking on the role of a physical therapist to help them meet their needs.

The majority of clients you will be working with include senior citizens and average adults, as they are most likely looking to improve their heart rate, be able to move around easier, or find simple ways to increase their lifespan. You may run into athletes who will need your help, but they will most likely look for assistance in recovering from an injury they suffered on the field.

Fitness Tech Engineer

You may be among fitness fanatics who have just as much of an interest in the technology that keeps your favorite machines running. That’s where fitness tech engineers come in, as they are tasked with keeping everything from the weight-lifting equipment to the cardio machines operating so that people don’t experience any extra roadblocks in their quest to get into shape.

This option requires a bit more education than the other careers, as there is a technical and scientific aspect to doing well at this job. Tasks will include keeping equipment clean and free of germs, designing fitness trackers to provide accurate results, and communicating with athletes to see what will maximize results for users.

Gym Owner

Those who have spent years in the fitness industry and are looking to run their own business should consider building their own gym or taking over as the owner of an existing one to share their expertise. This option is less of a hands-on job than others, though it involves communicating with important figures on different levels that keep the company moving.

Being a gym owner requires reserving time for plenty of paperwork that involves contracts with new employees and being able to sell products that help people in different ways. You will also spend more time in the boardroom than the gym and be relaying objectives, schedules, and projects between the board and management. This job also involves periodically checking on equipment to ensure that it is helping customers see results.

Consider these options so that you can make good money helping people get and stay fit.
