Lowering High Blood Pressure In One Week

If you have ever been told by your doctor that you have way too high of a blood pressure reading, you probably have wondered the best way to lower your numbers in a hurry. If you can’t get your blood pressure under control with just diet and exercise, it is likely that you will be put on expensive blood pressure medications that will drain your wallet and change your daily routine. When I was tools at the age of 30 that I had hypertension levels of blood pressure, I was determined to find a way of lowering my high blood pressure in just one week so the doctor would get off my back and I could rest a little easier knowing I was on the right track. It took some research and a lot of dedication, but here is how I went from having a 148 systolic reading to a 126 in just 7 days.

My Story

When I first found out that my blood pressure was worse than that of an unhealthy 50 year old man at the age of 30, it was time to take a hard look in the mirror. This included everything from my diet, exercise regimen, and my chosen career. Talking to a nutritionist and a personal trainer were easy solutions for the first two, but changing my daily routines at work were a challenge I needed to face alone.

My job is conducted mostly from home and requires me to sit pretty much the entire day at a desk in front of a computer screen. I work for a company that offers sparklers for your wedding, so almost all of my marketing and sales take place on the internet. Sitting at a desk is a pretty common theme among American jobs, but few know how bad it is for your circulation and subsequently your blood pressure. By simply standing up for five minutes every half hour, I gave my body the ability to function properly while still being able to do my job.

Changing Your Diet

The most important way to lower you blood pressure in one week as drastically as I was able to do is to significantly change your diet. Take a hard look at what you’ve been eating for the last few years, but more precisely the last few days. If you’re like me, you’ll probably realize that you’ve been eating way too much sodium and way too much saturated fat. I was eating pizza 2 or 3 times a week, and a pepperoni pizza from a delivery place has over 4 times the amount of sodium your should get in a day and a whole boat load of saturated fat. Cheeseburgers, bacon, and many other popular foods have the same issues, so cutting out processed foods and eating sensibly is vital to the process.

What I did was start eating lots of bananas and apples throughout the day to tide me over until dinner. In the evening, I would eat a 4 ounce portion of chicken with no salt and a huge pile of fresh vegetables like carrots, broccoli, and baby corn. Your body only needs about 500mg of sodium per day to function properly, so try to limit your diet to that if you want to lower your blood pressure significantly in just one week.

Exercise Regiment

Exercise is another area that many people neglect if they have high blood pressure. I was personally always thin and fit looking without any type of workout plan, so I made the classic mistake of assuming I was healthy. Unfortunately, being thin doesn’t mean your heart is healthy and you really need to get some cardio exercise everyday if you want to stay on top of things.

To get my blood pressure down in one week, I really hot the ground running hard. I started off by doing two workouts per day for 30 minutes each on the treadmill and stationary bike, and by the end of the week I was up to nearly 2 hours per day in the gym. By exercising every day and cutting out nearly all the sodium, I was able to drop my blood pressure in one week to where my doctor was happy and then continue to keep it in check with a good balance of sensible choices and exercise.
